Search for a certified translator

You can search for certified translators registered in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Register of Certified Translators.

Certified translators officially translate, from a foreign language into Greek and vice versa, providing their services as freelance/self-employed:

  • public and private documents, whether produced by private individuals or by public authorities;
  • foreign authentic instruments, as defined by the Hague Convention, if they bear the apostille of the Hague Convention “APOSTILLE”, if they come from an authority of a country party to that convention.
  • in any other case, if they are either endorsed by the Greek consular authority in the country of origin of the document, or if they are endorsed by the consular authority of that country in Greece with validation by the competent department of KEPAPAE. For documents from countries in respect of which Greece has expressed reservations to accede to the Hague Convention and for as long as these reservations have not been lifted, ratification shall be carried out only by the relevant Greek consular authority.

The official translation of private documents shall be carried out when they are certified or endorsed. Certified translators may also translate uncertified or uncertified or unsigned or computerised private documents, the translation of which is not an official translation.

You can search for certified translators included in the Register of Certified Translators of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Certified translators formally translate the following types of documents from a foreign language into Greek and vice versa and provide their services as free lancers:

Public and private documents submitted by individuals or public agencies;
Foreign public documents, as defined in the Hague Convention, provided that they bear the stamp of the Hague Convention (Apostille) when they originate from a country that is a party to this Convention;
In any other case, they must be validated by the Greek Consular Authority in their country of origin or by such country’s Consular authority in Greece and then by the Validation Office (KEPPAE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only the relevant Greek Consular Authority may validate documents originating from countries for which Greece has made a reservation about the accession to the Hague Convention and for as long as such retention remains valid.
Private documents may be formally transformed if they are validated or certified. Certified translators may also translate non-validated, non-certified, unsigned and completed private documents, why translation shall not be official.
